The sheet resistance of an electrically conductive layer is measured by non-contact eddy current method. The sheet resistance describes the ability of a square layer to conduct a certain current. This characteristic is the most important quality parameter for surface electrodes and is determined during layer deposition or for quality assurance of conductive thin films. Sheet resistance is specified in ohms / sq, in order to achieve a differentiation for the specific resistance indicated in ohms. Furthermore, sheet resistance measurements can be converted to layer thickness for measurement of layers with constant resistivity eg. metal films.

SURAGUS – Improving Non Contact Eddy Current Measurements:
Over the last year, we have had a number of technical discussions with prospective customers about the Suragus non contact thin film tools which utilize eddy-current measurement technology.
Most often, these initial on-line reviews/discussions show how eddy current capabilities have advanced in the last decade, enabled in large part by improvements to the software. This then results in customers taking the next step of having sample measurements made on their materials.
This process is resulting in a number of orders being placed for SURAGUS tools. This ranges from manual hand held offerings to mapping tools, in-line solutions, as well as semi-automatic and full production tools with cassette to cassette operation.
